What a 200-amp service upgrade covers
It upsizes the service entrance and usually the panel so the house can carry today's loads. Meter, mast, and inspection are part of the same job.
When a house outgrows 100-amp
Many Lakes Region cottages still sit on a 100-amp camp service. Add heat, a well, a generator, or a Level 2 charger and the main becomes the bottleneck. A 200-amp upgrade is the common path when the load calculation says the service, not just the branch circuits, is short.
What the work usually includes
The utility meter arrangement, mast or underground service entrance as the site requires, a new or relocated panel, grounding updates, and permit with inspection. Indoor and outdoor layouts differ. Seasonal access and ledge change labor around Lake Winnipesaukee and Squam Lake.
How this ties to generators and EV chargers
Standby generators and Level 2 chargers often trigger the upgrade conversation. Sometimes a load shed module avoids a service change for a charger. Sometimes 200-amp comes first. Cost factors sit on the panel upgrade cost guide. Charger capacity is covered in panel support for an EV charger.

Questions
200-amp service questions for Lakes Region homeowners
Is every panel replacement a 200-amp upgrade?
No. Some panels are replaced at the same service size. 200-amp means the service entrance and main are upsized when the calculation calls for it.
Do I need the utility involved?
Often yes for meter and service entrance work. Timing with the utility is part of scheduling and is called out in the estimate.
How long is the house without power?
There is a planned outage window for the cutover. We set that when we schedule so you can plan heat, well, and fridge needs.
Can I go past 200-amp?
Some properties need more. Most Lakes Region homes land on 200-amp when they leave 100-amp. We size to the load calculation, not a round number.
Is surge protection included?
Whole-home surge at the new panel is often added in the same visit. Ask for it in the estimate if you want it in scope.
