Why circuit breakers keep tripping
Overload, a weak breaker, or a failing circuit are the usual causes. Repeated trips deserve a look, not a larger breaker as a first guess.
Overload on a circuit that is doing too much
Space heaters, microwaves, well pumps, and tool chargers stacked on one branch trip a healthy breaker that is doing its job. Sharing kitchen or garage loads is a common Lakes Region pattern in older cottages. The fix may be a new dedicated circuit, not a panel swap.
A weak breaker or a problem on the circuit
Breakers wear out. A loose connection, damaged cable, or moisture in a seasonal house can trip the same breaker even when the load looks light. Swapping in a higher-amp breaker without finding the cause is unsafe and is not how we work.
When trips point back at the panel or service
If several breakers trip, lights dip when the well starts, or the panel is warm, the service may be the limit. That is when panel upgrade signs and a load calculation matter. An EV charger or generator plan should not ignore repeat trips.

Questions
Breaker trip questions for Lakes Region homeowners
Is a tripping breaker always urgent?
A breaker that will not reset, or a smell of burning, needs attention now. Occasional trips on a known heavy load still deserve a visit before they become constant.
Can I replace the breaker myself?
Panel work is not a DIY swap for most homeowners. Wrong amp rating or a loose landing makes the problem worse. Call for the diagnosis and the repair.
Why does the breaker trip when the well pump starts?
Motor starting draw is high. A weak breaker, a shared circuit, or a service near its limit can all show up at that moment. We check the circuit and the panel together.
Will a panel upgrade stop every trip?
Only if the panel or service was the cause. Many trips are a single overloaded branch. We fix the real cause, which is sometimes a new circuit and sometimes a larger service.
Do you troubleshoot before quoting a panel?
Yes. We look at the trips, the loads, and the panel before we recommend a panel upgrade or a simpler fix.
